Drew Martin is a 23 year old percussionist based in Columbus, Ohio. He is a diverse performer, often working with several local orchestras, church bands, jazz ensembles, musical theatre companies, and R&B groups. His versatility is his biggest strength and allows him to have a wide understanding of music in various genres and styles. As a freelance composer and arranger, he has written chamber percussion music, jazz big band charts, marching band arrangements, and everything in between. His educational background is largely influenced by his time in Rhythm X, an independent marching percussion ensemble. While he was there, he won silver and gold in the Winter Guard International Championships as a member of the front ensemble for both Rhythm X's percussion and wind ensembles.
Drew Martin attended Capital University in Columbus, OH, where he majored in Jazz Studies. He was a student of Bob Breithaupt, Nate Anders, and Ryan Kilgore. Through his experience at Capital, he was able to meet and perform with such notable names as Dr. Jeffrey Gershman, John Mackey, David Maslanka, Jim Swearingen, Dr. Lou Fischer, and Stan Smith. His studies have allowed him to grow as a soloist, a jazz musician, a chamber percussionist, and an orchestral performer.
When he's not writing or performing original music, Drew performs with local ensembles, such as the Newark-Granville Symphony and the Central Ohio Symphony. His experience as an orchestral performer has lead to several great opportunities, like a European concert band tour, performing at the Ohio Music Educator's Association Professional Development Conference, as well as being the Principal Percussionist in Capital University's top symphonic band for two years. This orchestral experience, mixed with a broad range of contemporary music experience makes him a great performer for musical pits. Drew performs with several theater companies throughout central Ohio.
After years of work arranging and notating music for personal use, Drew started to expand his work into a business. This experience has helped to create cleanly notated music for all styles of music. He has been arranging professionally since 2015, and recently he has worked as a music copyist, editing arrangements for Dr. Lou Fischer, notable bassist, arranger, and composer. His music engraving work has also lead to work illustrating and notating examples for an upcoming percussion education book for Oxford University Press.
Drew is a versatile performer, crossing instruments, genres, and styles. His wide range of experience working in various ensembles and with many fantastic musicians, composers, and educators make him a great person to work with.
